General Orthopaedic FAQ’s
What is an Orthopaedic Surgeon?
An orthopedic surgeon, or orthopaedic surgeon, is a surgeon who has been educated and trained in the diagnosis and preoperative, operative, and postoperative treatment of diseases and injuries of the musculoskeletal system.
Why should I visit an Orthpaedic Surgeon?
Orthopaedic Surgeons specialize in the diagnosis and treatment of illness and injury to the human body. They focus on all the components that make up the musculoskeletal system. This is an elaborate system that incorporates every joint, bone, tendon, ligament, nerve and muscle in the body. Patients that would consult with an Orthopaedic Surgeon include those with arthritis or tendon damage all the way through to patients with spinal injuries.

Arthritis & Joint Replacement Program
The joint surgeons of Mississippi Sports Medicine and Orthopaedic Center perform more partial and total knee and hip replacements than all other orthopaedic surgeons in the state of Mississippi combined. Currently, we offer partial knee replacements on an outpatient basis. Soon, we will be offering total knee and hip replacements as well at our new outpatient clinic in Madison.
Over the past five years, advanced techniques and technologies have revolutionized knee and hip replacements, allowing more arthritis patients to consider treatments at an earlier stage than they had in the past. Most people with arthritis of the hips and knees gradually stop doing things they love, adapting their lives to cope with reduced mobility. In many cases, when traditional treatments are not effective, hip and/or knee replacement surgery may be appropriate in order to stop the pain, increase mobility and allow you to lead a normal life.
We are orthopaedic surgeons fellowship trained in arthritis surgery and total joint replacement. Our commitment is to provide quality care to those who suffer from arthritis and other degenerative or traumatic conditions of the hip and knee. In 2012, we performed approximately 2500 total joint replacement procedures. The majority of our patients are from Mississippi, but we also serve patients from all over the Southeast, including Alabama, Tennessee, Arkansas, and Louisiana.
