MISSISSIPPI SPORTS MEDICINE SURGERY CENTER NAMED AMONG THE BEST IN THE NATION BY U.S. NEWS & WORLD REPORT

Jackson, MS – March 26, 2025 – The Surgery Center at Mississippi Sports Medicine and Orthopaedic Center (MSMOC) has been recognized as one of the "Best Ambulatory Surgery Centers for Orthopedics & Spine" by U.S. News & World Report.

Of the 12 ambulatory surgery centers (ASCs) in Mississippi that do orthopedic and spine cases, only four earned this prestigious distinction, and of the three such ASCs in Central Mississippi, MSMOC’s ASC is the only facility that isn’t spine-specific to achieve this recognition.

This honor underscores Mississippi Sports Medicine’s dedication to providing patients with the highest quality orthopedic care through innovation, expertise, and advanced surgical techniques. The ranking is based on key performance indicators such as procedural volume, complication rates, patient outcomes, and unplanned hospital admissions.

Pioneering Orthopedic and Spine Surgery
MSMOC’s Surgery Center continues to lead in outpatient orthopedic and spine surgery. In 2020, it became the first privately held ASC in the country to achieve Blue Distinction Center+ (BDC+) designations for Hip, Knee, and Spine Surgery, an accreditation previously reserved for hospital systems. Today, MSMOC is one of only two ASCs in Mississippi, and the only one in the metro Jackson area, to hold this distinction. The BDC+ designation is awarded to facilities that demonstrate high-quality care, superior patient outcomes, and cost efficiency, requiring strict adherence to evidence-based clinical guidelines and ongoing performance evaluations.

Advanced Technology and Innovation
Mississippi Sports Medicine and Orthopaedic Center’s ASC spans 75,000 square feet and features 12 fully equipped operating rooms, 50 pre-operative and post-anesthesia care unit (PACU) bays, and 7 specialized procedure rooms. The facility is at the forefront of orthopedic advancements, offering:

  • Minimally invasive spine surgery for faster recovery and reduced post-operative pain.
  • Robotic-assisted joint replacement for greater precision and improved surgical outcomes.
  • Specialized orthopedic care in a dedicated outpatient setting, reducing infection risks and hospital-related complications.

"Receiving this recognition from U.S. News reaffirms our commitment to providing cutting-edge, patient-focused care," said Jeff Almand, MD, orthopedic surgeon at Mississippi Sports Medicine and Orthopaedic Center. "By pioneering advanced surgical techniques

and leveraging the latest technology, we ensure that patients in Central Mississippi and beyond receive world-class orthopedic treatment with exceptional outcomes."

Transforming Outpatient Surgery for Better Patient Outcomes
MSMOC’s Surgery Center provides a high-quality, cost-effective alternative to hospital-based surgeries. In 2024, more than 81% of the practice’s procedures were performed in the ASC, giving patients the benefits of:

  • Faster recovery times with reduced complications.
  • Lower costs compared to traditional hospital settings.
  • A patient-first approach that prioritizes comfort, safety, and efficiency.

"Our mission is to redefine orthopedic care by offering the highest level of surgical expertise in an outpatient setting," said Meredith Warf, CPA, DPT, CEO of MSMOC. "This recognition validates the hard work of our entire team and our relentless focus on delivering the best possible outcomes for our patients."
