The Surgery Center at Mississippi Sports Medicine was featured in The Madison County Journal this week. The Surgery Center at Mississippi Sports Medicine & Orthopaedic Center (MSMOC) achieved Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care’s Advanced Orthopedic Certification in Total Joint Replacements and Complex Spine Procedures earlier this year. The Advanced Orthopaedic Certification is the highest level of rigorous orthopedic care standards of a nationally recognized healthcare-accrediting body. This specialty certification confirms MSMOC’s commitment to providing the highest level of quality care to patients.

The Surgery Center at MSMOC, a 25,000 square foot state-of-the-art facility, is the first Ambulatory Surgery Center in the Southeast to receive the designation, which earns the Blue Cross Blue Shield Blue Distinction + Status, the prestigious trademark that was previously only available to hospitals.

Since 2006, consumers, medical providers, and employers have relied on the Blue Distinction program to identify hospitals delivering quality care in Hip and Knee Replacements, Spine Surgery, and Cardiac Care. The selection criteria used to evaluate facilities were developed with input from the medical community and include general quality and safety metrics plus program specific metrics.

Research confirms that Blue Distinction Centers+ demonstrate better quality and improved outcomes for patients with lower rates of complications and readmissions than their peers. Blue Distinction Centers+ also are more than 20 percent more cost-efficient. The program provides consumers with tools to help them make better-informed healthcare decisions. These results will also enable employers, working with their local Blue Plan, to tailor benefits to meet their individual quality and cost objectives.

MSMOC partnered with Blue Cross Blue Shield of Mississippi in 2015, as one of the entire country’s first bundled procedure agreements. Our outpatient total joint program has grown to over 1,200 procedures performed this year. This coordinated effort has proven that highly integrated plans of care, individualized treatment plans, and organized patient pathways are superior in outcomes and patient satisfaction, in addition to saving employers and patients millions of dollars.
