Jeremy Smitherman, MD

About

Dr. Jeremy D. Smitherman grew up in Madison, Mississippi. He graduated Magna Cum Laude from Mississippi State University with a Mechanical Engineering degree in 2004. After graduation from MSU, he attended the University of Mississippi Medical Center where he received his Doctor of Medicine in 2008. Dr. Smitherman continued training at UMMC after graduation and completed his residency in Anesthesiology. During his final year of training, he was named chief resident.


In 2012, Dr. Smitherman joined Oktibbeha County Hospital in Starkville, MS as an Anesthesiologist where he practiced for seven years.  He was voted by his peers to serve as chief of surgery section from 2016-2019.  He is board certified by the American Board of Anesthesiology. 


In  2019, he began an accredited fellowship with UMMC to further his academic career in the area of Interventional Pain Management. He received training in the comprehensive management of pain utilizing a multidisciplinary approach including medication management, physical therapy, interventional procedures, and cognitive behavioral therapy. He specializes in spinal cord stimulation and vertebral augmentation. Dr. Smitherman is able to provide consultation and treatment for patients dealing with multiple types of pain including spine and neck pain, cancer pain, peripheral neuropathy, and complex regional pain syndrome.


Dr. Smitherman enjoys spending time with family, hunting, fishing, attending Mississippi State sporting events, and attending church. His wife’s name is Sarah, and they have two daughters.
